Bunjaku
who reportedly started his football career late as a youth (age 13) and who was
once more interested in basketball than football, has actually progressed into
becoming a very competent and accomplished striker.
Since having started his professional career at FC Schaffhausen in the
Swiss Second Division, Bunjaku hasn’t looked back and has gone from strength to
strength.
After 39 appearances and 3 goals at FC
Schaffhausen, he moved on loan to SC Paderborn 07 where he did not stick around
for very long – due to the then Paderborn 07’s manager Jos Luhukay who
apparently did not feel that Bunjaku was good enough.
Having been left without a club,
Bunjaku was lucky enough to strike a deal and start playing for Rot-Weiss
Erfurt. In 3 seasons Bunjaku played 74 times and scored a whopping 34 times –
including twice (as a substitute) in the DFB Cup tie against FC Bayern Munich
(managed by Jurgen Klinsmann) in 2008.
Subsequent to the
stint in the lower league, Bunjaku who now had come to the attention of the
general footballing public in Germany, was able to move to FC Nuremberg playing
55 times and scoring 14 goals in 3 seasons.
As of the current
season (2012), Bunjaku is an integral part of FC Kaiserslautern where so far he
has played 12 times and scored 8 goals.
The train for the
Albanian FA to take any form of action in regards to booking him for the
national team has left the track long ago, as Bunjaku has been acknowledged as
an accomplished striker by the Swiss national coach and handed 6 caps so far.
All that is left to
us to do, is to wish him the best of the best in his footballing career, and
hopefully sit back and appreciate all that he has achieved and all that he will
achieve. A true talent.
