With the first part of the season over, Skenderbeu of Korca
has an extensive lead over Teuta of Durresi with 10 points ahead, with only 13
games left in the second half of the season – it is hard to envisage that they
slip. The league title is theirs to lose.
Teuta of Durresi, KF Tirana and an unlikely challenger, KF
Kukesi follow. While we all know that Tirana has the history and reputation to
put up a fight, Teuta lacks the gravitas to really challenge Skenderbeu. Kukesi
on the other hand must themselves be in a state of exhilaration not believing
the position they find themselves in – nevertheless, after Skenderbeu, they
have lost the least amount of games in the league (2). Bylis, Laci, Flamurtari
and Vllaznia occupy the middle of the table. While Bylis and Laci may have the
same amount of points as third placed Kukesi, their chances of a league
challenge are negligible. It remains interesting to see however how Flamurtari
and Vllaznia two Albanian powerhouses fare in the second phase of the
championship.
The relegation battle sees Tomori of Berat, practically
destined to play lower league football next season – having completely given up
in the first stage with 0 wins from 13 attemps. Apolonia Fier comes close to
rivalling Tomori’s inefficiencies. One win in 12 occuppying second place from
bottom. Shkumbini and Luftetari of Gjirokastra occupy the other two relegation
slots.
It remains to be seen what the next phase of the
season brings – however, betting on any other team to unseat Skenderbeu of
Korca, would not be a wise bet to take – nevermind the fact that you wont be
able to do so – as to our knowledge bookies are no longer taking any bets on
that market.
